Inspired by the mythical figure of Don Quixote, artist Abraham Poincheval decided in 2018 to create a knight’s suit of armour for himself and travel across Brittany, meeting local residents along the way. Through this performance, he brings back to life the anachronistic anti-hero invented by Miguel de Cervantes in 1605, reviving the poetry of the absurd. Windmills become wind turbines, while local inhabitants encounter a knight seemingly transported from another era, creating a playful juxtaposition of past and present.

The armour and video created for this performance are presented at the Goya Museum, following their exhibition at the Mucem as part of the exhibition Don Quixote: A Madman’s Tale, A Story to Laugh About. These works evoke, with a touch of humour, one of the great figures of Spanish literature, whose legacy continues to inspire contemporary artists today.
