The contemporary art center La Malmaison has opened its doors with the exhibition “Luxe, calme et volupté,” running until April 20, 2025. It showcases works inspired by Mediterranean landscapes from 56 artists, including Cézanne, Monet, Renoir, Picasso, Combas, and many others.
The exhibition brings together 129 works from 56 modern and contemporary artists inspired by the light and colors of Mediterranean landscapes. The exhibition highlights how traveling to the South of France has been a foundational ritual for many young painters, seeking serenity, warm atmosphere, intense light, and typical architectures with terraced roofs and views overlooking the sparkling blue sky and sea.
Through this perpetual journey to this “lost paradise,” artists still seem to be searching for creative inspiration and hedonistic pursuits. Some have chosen abstraction to capture moments of fascination and contemplation, while others have continued the figurative tradition by reintroducing work on the motif.
