Laurent Le Deunff, La bascule du corps fantôme
La bascule du corps fantôme (Tilting the phantom body) is a term borrowed from the sphere of hypnosis or deep relaxation and is related to the phenomenon of the out-of-body experience. This exhibition invites the viewer to consider the ensemble of presented works as a vast body, a kind of “sculpture in negative” that unfolds and reveals itself within the walls of the Portique Contemporary Art Center in Le Havre. The “white cube”, initially an empty block, is populated with a series of oeuvres that deploy a new narrative thread. This display, put together by Laurent Le Deunff, is a re-reading of works presented from June 30 through October 1 at the Abbey Sainte-Croix and the Abbey Saint-Jean d’Orbestier in Les Sables-d’Olonne. The title reflects the artist’s desire to float above his recent exhibition, allowing himself to take a step back and lend a renewed perspective to these previously displayed works.
For his exhibition at the Portique, the artist unrolls a new visual thread, taking us on a stroll through his works, through nature—his own reinvented, reconstituted version of nature, made up of snares, lures and simulacra that enable the viewer “to see what it is not.”
