A tree is one thing, a stone is another, inspired by a story by the American writer Lydia Davis. A girl is transformed into a stone and then into a tree. A change that Davis describes poetically: " it was not possible, and yet it happened; and not suddenly, but very slowly, not a miracle, but something quite natural, even though it was impossible".

The period 2020-2024 has been marked by change. Think of the COVID pandemic, sharp economic fluctuations and anti-technological developments. Artists are trying to point out these changes, to question them or to connect with new technologies. Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) is interested in the possibilities it presents: new forms, relationships or new worlds that once seemed impossible.

This is the first temporary exhibition since the DNB reopened. Once hermetically sealed, it is now a public space.

It presents an overview of its latest acquisitions, with works by emerging artists including Christine Moldricks, Maze de Boer, Tanja Engelberts, Bobbi Essers and Emma van der Put.
