Rudy Cremonini

Rudy Cremonini is an undeniably figurative painter with his emphatically assured brushstrokes. His fluid painting, made up of few yet decisive strokes, and his austere and muted palette of colors, open up broad fields of matter on the canvas. His ability to lend animation to the surface of his paintings is quite remarkable: he treats his subjects and their backgrounds with equal importance, to the point where certain areas of his canvases, endowed with seemingly arbitrary textures and variations, are immerged in a regime of pure abstraction. Objects and portraits are engulfed by a fluidity that dissipates the scenes into colors, as the subjects seem to melt into themselves. Their painterly quality distracts the eye and the mind and unresolved stories seem to float in an atmosphere of suspension, disorientation and ambiguity.

Rudy Cremonini was born in Bologna, Italy in 1981. After graduating from the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts, he participated in several public and private exhibitions. Amongst his recent solo shows, the presentation of his works at Volta New York in 2017 was highly acclaimed and other exhibitions such as his duo at Spazio 522 in New York, 2014, curated by Sarah Corona, at the Arieta Arte Contemporanea in Bologna in 2019, at the Galerie Thomas Fuchs in Stuttgart in 2019 and at Gallery 104 in Tokyo, were also well received. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, principally in Italy but also abroad, in Belgium, Canada, Germany and Japan: “Next” (Galleria Doris Ghetta, Ortisei, 2015), “Eterno Ritorno” (Bonioni Arte, Reggio Emilia, 2014, curated by Niccolo Bonnechi), “In Trance” (Schafhof – European Center for Art in Upper Bavaria, Freising, Germany, 2013, curated by Uwe Goldenstein), “Dorian Gray” (Ana Cristea Gallery, New York, 2012, curated by Ilan Cohen and Quang Bau) and “High Time” (Galerie Toxic, Luxemburg, 2012).
