Louis Gary

Louis Gary self-assuredly explores the figurative possibilities of sculpture, furthering his investigations through his close involvement with the field of design; the oeuvres he produces thus simultaneously evoke hieratic statuary, the ligne claire style of drawing and the work of model-makers. His practice of photography implicitly reconstitutes the sensitive background of his work and anchors it within a history of forms that play, without any sense of irony, on their own ambiguity. Contemplation, the supernatural, and the world of the carnival: the multiplicity of the forces summoned, offers the spectator a hide from which to contemplate the world, its expression and its realities.

Born in Rennes in 1982, Louis Gary lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine in the suburbs of Paris. He graduated from the Ecole Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Nantes (2003) and continued his studies at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles and the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (2007).
