For the first time in its history, the Marcel Duchamp Prize will be presented at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (MAM) in 2025. The exhibition of the shortlisted artists is curated by Julia Garimorth (Chief Curator and Head of Contemporary Collections, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris) and Jean-Pierre Criqui (art historian, critic, and curator in the Department of Contemporary Collections at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou).
Established by the ADIAF (Association for the International Diffusion of French Art) and organized since its inception in partnership with the Centre Pompidou, the Marcel Duchamp Prize is among the most prestigious distinctions in contemporary art. With an endowment of €90,000, the Prize has, since 2000, celebrated artists who have gone on to become leading figures on the international art scene. As the Centre Pompidou undergoes major renovation work, the exhibitions of the Marcel Duchamp Prize will be hosted at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris from 2025 through 2029.
The four nominees for the 2025 Marcel Duchamp Prize are:
Bianca Bondi (b. 1986, Johannesburg, South Africa) – lives and works in Paris.
Xie Lei (b. 1983, China) – lives and works in Paris.
Eva Nielsen (b. 1983, Les Lilas, France) – lives and works in Paris.
Lionel Sabatté (b. 1975, Toulouse, France) – lives and works in Paris and Los Angeles.
The works of the shortlisted artists will be on view in the collections galleries of the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, with free admission, from September 26, 2025, to February 22, 2026.
The announcement of the 2025 laureate will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, during Paris Art Week, at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. The international jury is composed of museum directors, collectors, and two artists.
This exhibition is presented at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris in partnership with the Centre Pompidou, ADIAF, and Paris Musées.
