The exhibition takes the exhibition history of the Oldenburger Kunstverein as its starting point. It brings together artistic positions that have shaped the Oldenburger Kunstverein over the past twenty years through solo exhibitions. What was once presented successively can now be encountered in a new constellation.
The title condenses the principle of the exhibition: Times refers to the history of the institution and to the artists’ individual trajectories of development; Signs points to the autonomy of each individual work; Connections refers to the relationships that only become visible within this new constellation. Rather than offering a retrospective in the conventional sense, the exhibition creates an open dialogue between works, memories and new perspectives.
Photography, painting, drawing, sculpture and installation enter into dialogue with one another. Extending beyond the exhibition space, a narrative, performative and musical accompanying programme, featuring additional contributions by Henning Strassburger, Klara Hobza and the collective Estrogeanalyzer — consisting of Alexander Wolff and Yves Mettler — further expands this dialogue.
Times, Signs, Connections does not present the history of the Oldenburger Kunstverein as a retrospective, but rather as a living web of relationships — between works and artists, between past and present, and between the exhibition venue and its audience.
